One of the major outcomes of our meta-innovation work has been a comprehensive suite of
tools,
methods and strategies for delivering successful step-change.
3.5 million step-change success stories tells us that there are only two ways to get
into the 2% of innovation winners:
1) add a new function or attribute
2) transcend a conflict or contradiction
If you’re not doing one of these two things, your chance of success equals zero. Period.
Delivering one or both of these things demands we divide the innovation story into
two distinctly different strands:
First: Find the ‘right’ problem or opportunity to be working on.
Define a customer and then really understand what that customer wants by listening to
the Voice Of the Customer.
All the time bearing in mind, that in almost every situation, your intended customer cannot or
will not tell you what they really want.
We have integrated this first strand into our TrenDNA methodology.
Second: generation and validation of
the most appropriate solution. This strand is all
about listening
to what we call the ‘Voice of the
System’. This is the quiet
voice
trying to tell us that someone, somewhere
has already found
a solution to
your problem. We refer here to our 3.5
million success stories, all of which
have been classified into solutions
involving new functions & attributes
or conflicts and
contradictions that
have been successfully challenged.
We have integrated this second strand into our
Systematic Innovation
offering.
